KUALA LUMPUR (June 28): The RiverCity recently showcased murals created by students from the Dasein Academy of Art.

The mural project, held from June 12 to June 15, involved 34 students from the academy, guided by three lecturers. The students worked in groups to create murals themed around Malaysian food, landmarks, and culture.

“As part of The RiverCity’s ongoing commitment to promoting local art and revitalizing community spaces, this initiative has transformed the walls throughout key blocks of the establishment into vibrant landmarks that celebrate Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage,” stated a media release on the event.

“These murals are more than just art. It’s a message to show that our students can contribute to society. I would like to extend my gratitude to our lecturers that also contributed highly to the success of this project,” said Dasein Academy of Art’s president Gooi Hean Chye.

The RiverCity’s mission, under the stewardship of the Low Yat Group, is to rejuvenate and celebrate the historical significance of Sentul and Third Mile Jalan Ipoh – also known as Batu Tiga – which are key components of Kuala Lumpur’s cultural landscape.

The RiverCity currently is made up of four distinctive hubs – the Pet Lovers Hub, Dine In & Delivery Hub, Merchants Hub, and Growers Market, serving “as a dynamic environment that meets the needs of modern businesses and residents while fostering community connections”.

The RiverCity is also developing a community walking path adjacent to Jalan Selvadurai.

“Our mission at Low Yat Group has always been to enhance the quality of life for everyone in this community. This brings us to the heart of today’s celebration – placemaking,” said senior marketing manager of The RiverCity Chan Wai Yee.

“Placemaking capitalizes on a local community’s assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that improve urban vitality and promote people’s health, happiness, and well-being. It’s about transforming areas into vibrant, functional, and engaging environments that foster a sense of community and belonging,” she added.
