KUALA LUMPUR (May 14): The International Construction Week (ICW) and the Malaysia International Building and Construction Industry Exhibition (BuildXpo) 2024 are projected to generate RM1 billion in sales, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
This projection is backed by the strong participation expected at the BuildXpo exhibition and targeted international business matching sessions, which will attract approximately 25 buyers from at least 10 diverse markets, including China, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Russia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Korea, Japan, and India.
"Last year, ICW and BuildXpo facilitated nearly RM500 million in potential sales through our business matching activities, including the International Sourcing Programme (INSP), which saw participation from 19 international companies from seven countries.
"This year, we aim to set more ambitious targets to provide greater opportunities for our construction businesses to showcase their capabilities on the global stage," Nanta said during the soft launch of ICW and BuildXpo 2024.
Nanta highlighted that this year's ICW and BuildXpo will also serve as a key platform to showcase the diverse career opportunities available to young people in construction.
He noted that the industry faces challenges such as an ageing workforce and the need to modernise with rapid technological advancements.
"The youth, as digital natives, are inherently adept with technology, making their involvement crucial for driving innovation and modernising the industry. Their fresh perspectives and proficiency in new technologies can revolutionise construction methods, sustainability practices, and safety standards," he added.
ICW and BuildXpo 2024, the annual event for the construction industry in Malaysia, will be held from October 22 to 24. It aims to attract over 10,000 industry professionals and feature around 500 booths.
The event is hosted by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and will be supported by the Public Works Department (JKR), the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM), the Chartered Institute of Building, and the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM).
