- The five-km underground vehicular tunnel will seamlessly link TRX to a network of 12 major roads and highways including Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Maju Expressway (MEX), SMART Tunnel and the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE), said TRX City Sdn Bhd, the master developer of the 70-acre TRX development.
KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 22): The Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) tunnel will be open to the public on Nov 29 coinciding with the opening of The Exchange TRX mall and the 10-acre rooftop TRX City Park.
The five-km underground vehicular tunnel will seamlessly link TRX to a network of 12 major roads and highways including Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Maju Expressway (MEX), SMART Tunnel and the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE), said TRX City Sdn Bhd, the master developer of the 70-acre TRX development.
The TRX tunnel, which will have direct connections to Jalan Tun Razak and SMART highway, will also create a loop system that provides access to and from major thoroughfares to various points within the development, said the Finance Ministry-owned company.
“By bypassing the busy roads, vehicles going to TRX do not add to the existing traffic volume in surrounding roads. Vehicles entering TRX via the loop tunnels will go straight to the parking bays, under the respective buildings in the district,” TRX City said in a statement on Wednesday.
The TRX tunnels, built by Gadang Engineering (M) Bhd and WCT Bhd, comprise two levels dedicated to vehicular traffic and an additional level exclusively for utility services.
For the safety and convenience of TRX road users, the installation of Waze Beacon within the TRX road tunnels also guarantees uninterrupted navigation into the district.
Works Minister Datuk Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who visited the TRX development site on Wednesday, said the road infrastructure will support TRX as Malaysia’s dedicated international financial centre.
“For a national project of this scale at a prime city location, TRX has carried out a lot of strategic planning to facilitate access for both public transport users as well as private vehicles. It aligns with the government’s commitment to make TRX an international business and social destination,” said Nantha.
"For example, the joint effort with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for the recently completed Jalan Tun Razak traffic dispersal project can reduce the traffic into the city by about 30%," he added.
TRX City chief executive officer Datuk Azmar Talib said the construction of the underground tunnel constitutes a crucial part of the RM3 billion investment dedicated to developing essential infrastructure for TRX.
“While TRX was envisioned as an international financial centre, it was designed as a transit-oriented development (TOD). We believe we have succeeded in creating a world-class urban ecosystem by incorporating our sustainability standard, inviting public spaces, and exceptional connectivity,” Azmar said.
