KUALA LUMPUR (July 20): Tropicana Corp Bhd is poised to launch SouthPlace 2 Residences (pictured) serviced apartments and SouthPlace 2 Shoppes retail lots within its 88-acre Tropicana Metropark township in Subang Jaya in 3Q2023.

According to a press release on Thursday (July 20), SouthPlace 2 Residences will comprise 553 apartment units with built-ups from 583 sq ft, featuring one- to four-bedroom layouts. It has a gross development value of RM142.04 million, with selling prices ranging from RM506,000 to RM964,000. Its integrated retail podium, named SouthPlace 2 Shoppes will feature 70 retail lots. More details of the development will be announced later.

Meanwhile, the press release also highlighted that the Mercato supermarket — owned and operated by GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd — is set to become the anchor tenant of SouthPlace Shoppes, the retail component of the SouthPlace Residences serviced apartments.

Slated for completion by 2024, SouthPlace Shoppes features 69 retail lots (60% taken up currently) with a size of 24ft by 70ft and selling prices from RM370,000 to RM4.631 million. Mercato will occupy 23,771 sq ft of SouthPlace Shoppes, offering produce, seafood, an array of cheeses and meats from the delicatessen as well as pastries and loaves of bread from its bakery.

“The move (Mercato being the anchor tenant) aligns with current trends seeing grocers and essentials operators as drivers for retail growth. Tropicana’s collaboration with GCH Retail (Malaysia) is timely, placing the building blocks in place for Tropicana Metropark as a self-sustaining mixed development.

“As an anchor tenant, Mercato delivers convenience for owners and residents, placing everything within easy reach. This is supplemented by the mature, established range of surrounding amenities thanks to the development’s strategic location in Subang Jaya. All this is in line with Tropicana’s mantra as it continues Redefining the Art of Living,” the press release read.

To date, Mercato has eight stores across Malaysia, in Penang, Selangor and Johor.
