PETALING JAYA (Aug 10): Digital certificates “confirming” that an individual has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 vaccine are being sold by irresponsible parties via social media, Malay news portal Kosmo! reported today

Head of Department and Senior Consultant O&G, Consultant Gynae Oncologist at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah Alor Setar, Datuk Dr Mohd Rushdan Mohd Noor posted on Facebook that the digital certificates are being sold at RM15 each.

The “cert” displays information such as a photograph of the holder of the digital certificate as well as the date and location of the vaccine dose given.

“It has started to be sold online. If the public is allowed to make a vaccine certificate identity card or print the vaccination certificate themselves, how can the authorities know between the genuine and the fake?” Dr Mohd Rushdan said in his Facebook posting.

Yesterday, senior minister for security Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein warned that anyone who uses fake digital vaccine certificates to take advantage of a relaxation of movement restrictions should be reported to the authorities, reported Bernama.

“The government feels that such actions are not responsible and people who do this need to be brought to justice to set an example for others,” he said.
