PETALING JAYA (Aug 9): The Southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan has recorded around 250 million yuan (RM163 million) in economic damage due to the heavy downpour, reported Reuters.

The report said 121,600 people in six cities were affected by the flood, some 118 houses were severely damaged while 45 houses collapsed.

In a separate report by XinHua Net, said the heavy rain lashed the northeastern part of Sichuan, including the cities of Bazhong, Nanchong and Dazhou, from 8am on Aug 7 to 8am on Aug 8, causes water levels of several local rivers raised above warning levels.

Last month, central Henan province was hit by severe storms, with the provincial capital Zhengzhou seeing the equivalent of a year’s worth of rain in just three days.
