KUALA LUMPUR (June 18): The Malaysian REIT Managers Association (MRMA) has named Hektar Asset Management Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Hisham Othman (pictured) as its chairman in an annual general meeting on June 17.

Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Jeffrey Ng, who has held the chairman position from 2016 to 2021, is now the immediate past president of MRMA. 

Meanwhile, Low Peck Chen (CapitaLand Malaysia Mall REIT), Datuk Stewart Labrooy (Alpha REIT) and Hafidz Atrash Kosai Mohd Zihim (Pelaburan Hartanah Nasional Bhd) were re-elected as the vice chairman, honorary secretary and honorary treasurer respectively.

Newly elected were Datuk Philip Ho (Pavilion REIT), also as vice chairman and committee member Leong Kit May (Axis REIT).

“As a collective voice of an association, we will continue to work to leverage on MRMA’s platform to proactively engage with various government ministries and agencies as well as Bursa Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia with regards to regulatory topics as well as other areas that will enhance the competitiveness of Malaysian real estate investment trusts (REITs) in the region," said Hisham in media statement today.

The total market capitalisation of 17 REITs (as listed under Securities Commission guidelines) in Malaysia stood at RM38.7 billion as at April 30, 2021.
