KUALA LUMPUR (April 26): The number of Covid-19 infections in the country in the past 24 hours rose to 2,776 from 2,690 the day before, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 395,718.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases in the country again, with 762, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. Sarawak came in second with 615 positive cases, followed by Kelantan (343 cases), Johor (309) and Kuala Lumpur (254).

The country also recorded 13 more deaths from the pandemic — six from Sarawak, three from Selangor, two from Sabah and one each from Kelantan and Johor. These raised the pandemic death toll to 1,449 cases, or 0.37% of total cases in the country.

In Dr Noor Hisham's daily Covid-19 statement, he informed that there were 1,803 new recoveries today, which raised the total recoveries to 369,556, representing a recovery rate of 93.4%.

As new cases continued to outpace the number of recoveries daily, the number of active cases in the country increased to 24,713.

12 new clusters reported today

Twelve new infection clusters were identified in the past 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham.

Four were workplace clusters, four more were community clusters, while three were from education clusters, religious centres, and detention centres.

The workplace clusters were Pondok Belaga, in Sarawak (nine cases), Kampung Batu Sembilan in Selangor (52), as well as Tapak Bina Tanjung Kupang (44) and Jalan Raja Bukit Pasir (151) in Johor.

Meanwhile, the community clusters were Jalan Sebauh-Bintulu in Sarawak (67 cases), Jalan Arumugam Pillai in Penang (13), as well as Kota Syahbandar (12) and Jalan Kesidang in Melaka (22). 

Out of the two education-linked clusters, one involved a school in Sungai Senibung in Julau, Sarawak, under the Ministry of Education. This cluster reported 14 cases so far.

The other case involved an educational instution in Kampung Pangkal Chuit, Kelantan (27 cases). Meanwhile, the religious centre cluster at Jalan Impian Emas 17, Johor, had seven Covid-19 cases while the detention centre cluster at Kampung Selamat in Penang had 22 cases.

Five clusters were declared ended today. Overall, the number of active clusters rose to 358 from 351 yesterday.
