KUALA LUMPUR (March 25): Malaysia's daily Covid-19 infections rose to 1,360 today, from 1,268 yesterday, bringing the country's number of cumulative cases to 338,168.

This is the 20th straight day that new cases have stayed below the 2,000 level.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the coronavirus claimed another two lives, raising Malaysia's death toll to 1,248.

The two fatalities were reported in Sarawak. They were aged 72 and 89 years.

In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor continued to be the state with the highest number of cases, with 356 new infections.

It was followed by Sarawak (308), Johor (129), Penang (113), Kuala Lumpur (98), Perak (71), Sabah (70), Kelantan (63), Negeri Sembilan (49), Kedah (44), Melaka (32), Pahang (10), Putrajaya (eight), Terengganu (six) and Labuan (three).

Of the new infections today, 1,359 were local transmissions involving 1,086 Malaysians and 273 foreigners, while one was an imported case.

Dr Noor Hisham said another 1,491 Covid-19 patients have recovered. These lifted the recovery tally to 322,416 or 95.3% of total infections.

With these, the number of active cases fell to 14,504, from 14,637 yesterday.

Another eight clusters detected

Dr Noor Hisham said another eight Covid-19 clusters have been identified. Seven of them are linked to workplaces, while one is a community infection.

The seven workplace clusters are Persiaran Maktab in Selangor with seven infections, Bandar Sri which spread to Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (12), Tenegang in Sabah (20), Paloh Rambai in Kelantan (20), Perusahaan LPK in Kedah (41), Merinding in Labuan (five), and Putra Satu which spans Putrajaya, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan (nine).

The lone community infection cluster, Siasai Tamu in Sabah, saw 11 infections. 

The country's Covid-19 clusters total 1,322, of which 928 have ended.
