KUALA LUMPUR (March 6): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied allegations by certain political parties that it has been used as a "political weapon" in carrying out its actions.

This came following reports that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council had strongly condemned the misuse of government agencies as a political weapon to gain support from opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

In a statement today, the MACC stressed that it is an independent investigation agency that always ensures its actions are done according to the law without political leanings.

It said the accusations are unfounded and irresponsible, which may tarnish the reputation of the MACC and create a negative perception of the commission.
