KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 10): Another five new clusters have been detected today — namely Tapak Bina Cyber cluster, Texmile cluster, Jalan Sibuga cluster, Alor Durian cluster and Wakaf Lanas cluster — with 123 infections reported, according to Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In a statement today, he said the Tapak Bina Cyber cluster, which involves the districts of Sepang, Petaling, Klang and Hulu Langat in Selangor, is the new cluster with the highest number of new infections at 67 cases. This cluster is from a construction site and 140 individuals that have been tested.

The Texmile cluster in Gombak, Selangor saw 19 cases, while Jalan Sibuga cluster in Sandakan, Sabah has nine cases, Alor Durian cluster in Kelantan has 17 cases and Wakaf Lanas cluster, also in Kelantan, has 11 cases.

With this, there are currently 254 active clusters in the country. Of these, there are 65 clusters that saw an increase in the number of cases, led by the Jalan Harapan Prison cluster of 79 cases, Rawa Akasia cluster of 73 cases and Beringin cluster of 65 cases.

Malaysia today saw 2,433 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 135,992. Total active cases rose to a new high of 27,332, of which 171 patients were being treated in intensive care units (ICUs), with 76 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, 1,277 patients were cured and discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 108,109. There were nine deaths reported today.
