KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 3): Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) will  temporarily revise its branch operating hours starting tomorrow (Jan 4) based on designated Covid-19 pandemic zones across Malaysia to protect the bank's customers and employees.

Maybank, which is Malaysia's most-valuable listed group, said via Twitter today that its branch operating hours in Covid-19 red zones will be revised to between 9:30am and 3pm for all services. Maybank said its branch operating hours in yellow and green zones will be revised to between 9:30am and 4pm for all services.

"To safeguard the well-being of our customers and employees, we will temporarily revise our branch operating hours, from Jan 4, 2021," Maybank said.

"Selected branches in Sabah will close at 1pm," said Maybank, which did not specifically mention Covid-19 in the group's Twitter updates.

However, the red zone, yellow zone and green zone phrases have been synonymous with Covid-19 as an indicator of the number of cases within a specific area.

News reports, quoting Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, reported that areas are designated as red zones when 41 or more Covid-19 cases are recorded there for a 14-day period.

It was reported that yellow zones are areas where one to 40 Covid-19 cases are recorded while green zones are areas where there are no reported Covid-19 cases.

Maybank's Twitter updates today included a link to a web page which indicates its branches' newly set usual operating hours.

According to the Maybank web page, selected Maybank branches are closed from last Thursday (Dec 31, 2020) onwards due to Covid-19.

The operating hours for Maybank branches in Kuala Lumpur and other states except Kelantan and Terengganu are between 9.30am and 4pm "unless stated otherwise” from Monday to Friday, Maybank said.

Operating hours at Maybank branches in Kelantan and Terengganu are between 9.30am and 4pm "unless stated otherwise” from Sunday to Thursday, the group said.
