KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 2): Malaysia reported today 287 new Covid-19 cases, the highest daily number of fresh infections recorded since the pandemic began in January.

According to the Health Ministry's update via Twitter, the 287 new Covid-19 cases brought the cumulative number of infected individuals in the country so far to 11,771.

The ministry said the 287 new Covid-19 cases brought the total number of active cases in the country to 1,540.

According to the ministry, the new Covid-19 cases are all locally transmitted.

The ministry said there were no Covid-19-related fatalities reported today, hence, the country's death toll stays at 136.

The ministry said there are 22 infected individuals being treated in the hospital intensive care unit.

Out of the 22 cases, four require breathing assistance, according to the ministry.

The ministry reported that 81 patients recovered today, bringing the total number of recoveries so far to 10,095.
