KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 17): The 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-Tanore trial continues today with its former CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi (pictured) still in the witness stand which he took to late last year.
Shahrol is being cross examined by Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s lawyers led by Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah.
During the last trial session, Shahrol was detailing the final phase of his tenure in 1MDB as its CEO.
Shahrol had previously claimed, during his testimony in October last year, that he was removed from 1MDB as CEO after voicing concerns over the unreasonably rushed financial transactions of the company involving up to billions of ringgit.
Shahrol said that he was forced out of the company because he was asking too many questions about the sham deals that Jho Low and Co were involving the company in.
Shortly after that he was replaced by Hazem Abdul Rahman and was transferred out of 1MDB by Najib and Jho Low.
Hazem will be the next witness to be called in the trial after Shahrol finishes his testimony.
In the 1MDB-Tanore trial, Najib is facing four counts of abuse of power for using his position as prime minister, finance minister and 1MDB board of advisers chairman to receive gratification worth RM2.28 billion and 21 counts of money laundering involving over RM4.3 billion.
