KUALA LUMPUR (May 13): Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pictured) said he trusts all Malaysians to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the ministry under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in the fight against the spread of Covid-19.
Replying to a question by a reporter on whether Malaysians can be trusted to have a high level of social discipline to break the chain of infection in the country, Noor Hisham retorted to the national slogan popularised in the early 1990s: Malaysia Boleh.
"If our industries and supermarkets comply with the SOP that has been given by the Ministry of Health, I am sure we can bring down (new) cases further.
“But we have to make history. If we want to be successful in breaking the chain of Covid-19 infections in this country, we have to come together as one.
"And if all of us put in our efforts, I’m sure we can do it. Malaysia Boleh," he said at his daily Covid-19 press briefing yesterday.
Noor Hisham reiterated that all Malaysians now have the responsibility to practice health precautions, especially in public areas, to ensure no further spread of the coronavirus.
"So now the onus is not only on the shoulders of the Ministry of Health and the government but on each individual in the country. They have to comply [with the SOP]. Social compliance, social discipline and social responsibility are all important.
"So, whether we will have a second wave or not, is not up to the ministry, but the onus is on the public as well," he added.
