KUALA LUMPUR (May 6): About 40,000 individuals surveyed by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said they had benefitted from the government’s economic stimulus package.
“About 40,000 or 96.8% of respondents said they had benefited from the Prihatin Economic Stimulus Package announced by the government on March 27, of which 68.2% said they had received three forms of assistance, whereas 13.9% received two and 17.9% received one,” the DOSM said in a statement today.
The department just released the second series of its special survey titled “Effects of Covid-19 on the Economy and Individual — Round 2".
The survey was conducted online from April 10 April 24 with a total of 41,386 individuals participating.
Chief statistician Datuk Sri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the analysis presented in this special survey report covers qualitative views of individuals on the economy, jobs, life patterns and education.
A total of 70.1% of respondents felt that the stimulus package was effective as it reduced their financial burden, while 9.1% of respondents thought it was effective because it could eliminate the financial burden faced during the movement control order (MCO) period.
Most people or 91% felt that the stimulus package did prioritise health and life, followed by income (4.6%) and life as normal (4.5%).
The survey also found that 96.1% of respondents were satisfied with the task force (front-liners) and health facilities provided to handle Covid-19.
“Overall, the outbreak of Covid-19 has affected the lifestyle of 96.3% of respondents, and they are prepared to maintain this changed lifestyle after returning to normal life following the end of the MCO,” the DOSM said.
In terms of education, the majority of respondents or 54.5% stated that the Internet access level for online learning was modest.
With the outbreak of Covid-19 and the MCO, most educational institutions held online learning sessions, and the survey found 67.5% of respondents spent one to five hours a day on online learning throughout the day. The best time to have these sessions, said 46.3% of respondents, was between 7am and 12pm.
