KUALA LUMPUR (May 5): It has been reported that three new areas in the city have been placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).
This latest development comes just two days after the new looser Conditional MCO came into force.
The three areas impacted by the latest EMCO are Taman Wilayah and Taman Desa Bakti in Selayang; and Jalan Raja Bot (video) where Chow Kit market is located.
All these areas are reportedly located near areas classified as Covid-19 red zones
A Federal Territories Ministry source told the Malay Mail that the three areas were placed under EMCO late last night.
“Yes it’s true. Let’s wait for the announcement later,” the source said.
An official from Kuala Lumpur City Hall also confirmed with Malaysiakini about the lockdowns in the three places.
These three areas will be the eighth, ninth and 10th EMCO areas since the MCO started on March 18.
The Ministry of Health stated last week it has the option to conduct EMCO as a stop-gap measure against new outbreaks even in the CMCO.
“The main objective of the MCO is to flatten the curve. As at April 14, we have done just that. Now the response is to strike the right balance between lives and livelihood.
“What is for sure, is that we must follow the SOP (standard of procedures) set up by the authorities.
“If there are outbreaks in any locality, we will undertake EMCO and close the area, undertake screening, treat the positives, and quarantine the close contacts,” Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said then.
