KUALA LUMPUR (April 13): The Ministry of Health (M0H) has detected two sub-clusters in Kuantan, in which 20 individuals have contracted the Covid-19 virus and one has passed away. 

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed that the index case, patient No. 4,688, in the cluster has a traveling history to Bali, Indonesia. The person had close contact with his brother, patient No. 1,575 patient, who has died of Covid-19.

Patient No. 1,575 had infected seven persons in the second generation, and 11 individuals in the third generation.

MoH has conducted screening tests on 339 individuals identified including 202 healthcare workers.

Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today that the clusters have been detected through a targeted approach by the MoH by detecting, screening and testing the high-risk groups.

He said, persons under investigation (PUI) in the Bali cluster involve a group of patients and several healthcare workers from a medical centre in Kuantan, Pahang.

Of the 20 PUI, three healthcare workers have been identified as being infected by people who are related to the cluster.

Fourteen patients are being treated in Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTTA) in Pahang, three are in the intensive care units (ICU), while two have recovered and been discharged from hospital. There is one death, patient No. 1,575.

Today, MoH announced that the daily recoveries exceed daily new cases, with 168 cured cases against 134 new infections.

The tally of Covid-19 infections is currently at 4,817. The death toll has risen to 77, with a new death reported as of noon today.
