KUALA LUMPUR (April 10): There were 416 foreigners among the 4,228 Covid-19 cases in Malaysia as at noon yesterday, according to the Health Ministry.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said at a press conference in Putrajaya yesterday that the 416 cases included nationals from Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Pakistan and the Philippines.
He said Malaysia has recorded two deaths among foreign nationals, one each from Pakistan and Indonesia. Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 67 so far.
He said the Ministry has been working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to ensure that refugees and asylum seekers are also protected under the Covid-19 preventive and control measures undertaken by the government.
"Besides that, the Ministry also received a lot of assistance from Non-Governmental Organisations and volunteers in conducting field surveillance activities with the involvement of officers from the district health office level. In Kuala Lumpur alone, a total of 137 volunteers from various sectors have worked hard together on this initiative,” he said.
