KUALA LUMPUR (April 9): For the third time, the number of daily Covid-19 recovered cases in Malaysia outpaced the number of new positive cases, with 121 recovered cases against 109 new confirmed cases today.
According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), this brings the total recoveries from Covid-19 to 1,608 cases or 38% of the total number of positive cases in Malaysia, which stands at 4,228 cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said the latest number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) has been reduced to 72 cases, with 43 of them requiring respiratory assistance.
23-year-old girl became youngest casualty in Malaysia
Two new deaths were reported today, raising the death toll due to the coronavirus outbreak to 67 in Malaysia, translating into a fatality rate of 1.58%.
The first death involved a 59-year-old male with a history of autoimmune disease and other chronic illnesses. He was one of the attendees of the Tabligh assembly at the Sri Petaling mosque. The man was treated in Melaka Hospital from March 31 until he passed away earlier today at 5am.
The second reported death was a 23-year-old female with a history of thyroid disease, making her the youngest person to die of Covid-19 in Malaysia.
She had come into close contact with two Covid-19 positive persons (case no 2,469 and 2,470) and became part of the fifth generation of infections originating from the church event in Kuching, Sarawak. She did not attend the event. The woman was treated in Sarawak General Hospital since March 30, until she passed away earlier today at 9.42am.
"MoH extends our condolences to the families of the deceased," Noor Hisham said.
