KUALA LUMPUR (March 31): Malaysia recorded 140 new COVID-19 cases as of noon today, bringing the total to 2,766.

In a statement, health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported six new deaths. This raises the death toll to 43 or 1.55% of the total cases in the country.

The number of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 94, while those in ICU who require ventilators is 60.

Noor Hisham said 58 more patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 537 or 19.4% of the total cases.

The six deaths are as follows:

38th death

A 48-year-old Malaysian woman who has a history of high blood pressure. She had close contact with patient 2750. She was treated at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar in Seremban and passed away yesterday at 4.04 pm.

39th death

A 69-year-old Malaysian man who has a history of high blood pressure and diabetes. He had travelled to Saudi Arabia and passed away on March 27 in his house.

40th death

A 69-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of high blood pressure and diabetes. He was treated at Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Kalsom in Johor and passed away on March 26 at 1.03pm.

41th death

A 40-year old Indonesian man. He was treated at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching and passed away today at 1.38am.

42nd death

An 81-year old man who had heart disease. Admitted to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, he passed away today at 7.09am.

43rd death

A 73-year old man who had diabetes and high blood pressure. He was admitted to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah and passed away yesterday at 4.30pm.
