KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): The police have rescinded the order requiring people to notify them before travelling across state borders, according to a report by The Star.

This latest development came about after many people went to police stations today (March 17) to get the okay to travel out of their states.

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said the order has been withdrawn for the time being until a decision can be made on the matter at a meeting tomorrow. (March 18).

"There is no restriction for those travelling between states. However, we still strongly advise the people to stay home and limit their travel, given the dangerous COVID-19 pandemic," he said when contacted by the daily.

It was reported earlier that Abdul Hamid asked all Malaysians who need to travel between states or districts to inform the police and obtain a permit to do so in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

He said people can bring the necessary documents to the police station, to show cause as to why they need to travel — such as to visit sick family members or to pick up their underaged children.
