KUALA LUMPUR (March 2): Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pictured) clarified today that Umno did not strike a deal for criminal charges against its leaders to be dropped in exchange for supporting the new coalition government.

The Umno president told Malaysiakini that such claims were not true.

"No, all that is not true," Zahid wrote in a phone text to the news portal.

As for his own corruption cases, Zahid said: "In my case, all my cases are fabricated."

The Malay Mail also reported that Zahid said his ongoing corruption trial “has only been deferred by one day and that it has not been dropped”.

“My case today was adjourned for this day March 2, 2020 (Monday) only. Tomorrow, March 3, 2020 (Tuesday), the case will resume as usual.

“This case has not been withdrawn like the other cases before this,” he said in a statement.
