KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 29): Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pictured) told the media that his “mission has succeeded”, reported the Malay Mail.

He was seen walking out of the home of Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s at about 4.30pm when he spoke to the press.

“I don’t want to say anything, but I want to say my mission is accomplished,” he said just before leaving.

This evening, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong A-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has appointed Muhyiddin as the eighth prime minister.

Muhyiddin also said that he hopes all Malaysians will accept the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong's decision.

It was reported that Zahid gathered Umno to back Muhyiddin as the next prime minister along with PAS, MCA, MIC and Sarawak Party Coalition (GPS).
