Zuraida: Putrajaya 'on track' to build a million affordable homes in 10 years

PUTRAJAYA (Jan 7): The government is ‘on track’ of achieving its target of constructing one million affordable homes over a decade.

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin (pictured) told the media “nearly 200,000 units having been built, or in construction in the last one year and a half”, adding that this was “in line with the government's pledge to build 100,000 affordable housing units a year over a 10-year period”.

"From July 2018 to Nov 2019, we completed 46,666 units.

"Those under construction make up another 151,933 units. In total, there are almost 200,000 units in 2018 and 2019.

"We are above our target, and it [the number of houses built] 'spills over' into the year 2020. Not that we can now relax.

“We must speed up the process of achieving our target," The Star reported her saying at her ministry here today.

As for the quality of the Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) homes, she is of the hope that in future, they “would have the same standing as Singapore's Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats”.

Meanwhile on another matter, Zuraida revealed that the nationwide tour on Shared Prosperity Vision (SPV) 2030 will begin on the first week of next month in Selangor.

The roadshow will promote the policies of SPV 2030 to party grassroots. Zuraida is also vice-president PKR

"We wanted to do it on Jan 19 but decided to postpone it due to the Chinese New Year celebrations.

"So, we will now hold it on the first week of Feb in Selangor. Two weeks after that, we will take it to Sarawak as preparations for the state elections there," The Star reported her saying at the same venue.
