KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 31): Secretary-general to the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali (pictured) has been appointed the new chief secretary to the government, effective tomorrow (Jan 1, 2020), according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) today.

He will be replacing Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar, who has gone on leave pending his compulsory retirement. Ismail took over the post from Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa in August 2018.

Mohd Zuki's appointment has been consented to by the King, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah, the PMO said.

58-year-old Mohd Zuki, who holds a degree in business management from Nanyang University, Singapore, has been in government service for 28 years.

He previously served in the ministries of finance, education, rural and regional development, home affairs, and natural resources and environment.

On top of that, Mohd Zuki, who hails from Terengganu, has served in Istana Negara, PMO. He was also the Sarawak Federal Secretary.
