MIRI: Areas in three different Sarawak districts were cut off by major landslides caused by incessant rain, the Star reported today.

The roads affected were Jalan Kampung Rayu Melayu in Kuching district, Jalan Matang Wildlife Centre in Matang sub-district and Jalan Samarakan-Bintulu.

The report said the State Disaster Relief Management Committee and Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department both flashed these landslide alerts in their latest updates.

It quoted committee secretariat Major Ismail Mahedin saying various agencies, like Bomba and Civil Defence Units and road works contractors, have been informed of the incidents.

"These landslides were caused by incessant rain today and last night.

"Operations to monitor these affected areas are in place. The relevant agencies and road contractors are dealing with the situation on the sites.

"Residents are told to be on the alert at all times," he said.
