KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 10): The prosecution in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd-Tanore trial will proceed in instituting contempt proceedings against Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam for allegedly threatening its witness Datuk Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin.
Amhari was the special officer to former premier Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Najib is on trial at the High Court for four counts of abuse of power and 21 charges of money laundering involving RM2.28 billion of 1MDB funds.
Lokman had lodged a police report against Amhari to seek an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and police into the eighth prosecution witness for his alleged wrongdoings which emerged during his testimony, including his US$200,000 'loan' from fugitive financier Low Taek Jho.
A source from the prosecution confirmed with theedgemarkets.com that it would be filing the papers for that application after serving the show-cause letter to Lokman on Oct 1 and giving him seven days to respond.
"Lokman chose to respond through a video recording. We will proceed with the contempt application and papers will be filed soon," said the source on condition of anonymity.
It was reported by some media that deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustafa Kunyalam, who is on the prosecution team of the trial, signed the show-cause letter against Lokman.
In his video reply to the show-cause letter which came out on Oct 2, the politician was filmed speaking from a hospital bed, questioning the prosecution's show-cause letter against him and why no action was taken against Amhari for receiving money from fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho.
