SUBANG JAYA (April 6): Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has started flood mitigation work in Seri Kembangan following heavy rain that flooded several areas under its purview on Tuesday, reported The Star today.
The council unclogged drains in the Taman Serdang Jaya residential area and two schools impacted by floods during a two-hour massive deluge on Tuesday (April 2).
The residential area and schools were inundated owing to the backflow of water “as levels rose as high as 156mm at Sungai Kuyoh”, reported the daily.
MPSJ president Noraini Roslan said RM300,000 and RM450,000 have been allocated to repair drains in Kampung Seri Kembangan and Taman Sungai Besi, respectively, which were also flooded on Tuesday.
She told the daily that MPSJ “would talk to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) about allowing the council to build a retention pond in UPM’s compound”.
“We need a new retention pond and we have identified this before, but we had problems accessing UPM because the ponds need to be built in their area,” she said.
The council will also talk to JPS about deepening Sungai Kuyoh as a long-term remedy.
