KUALA LUMPUR (March 25): The relocation of the Ramadan and Deepavali bazaars from Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman to Jalan Raja is in response to complaints of congestion and poor hygiene in the previous instalments, said Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk Shahruddin Md Salleh.
Access to the surrounding shops were blocked by the increased road and foot traffic, he replied during Question Time in Dewan Rakyat, reported the Malay Mail today.
“Hygiene in the area was also affected from the bazaar; added with the construction of the pedestrian walk along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Masjid India, this will make it hard for tourists to access the area,” he explained.
Shahruddin said the new site along Jalan Raja “would be fully managed by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) including the allocation of gazetted lots to bazaar traders”.
“The new location will be more comfortable and orderly, which will ease the congestion along Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman,” he added.
Last week, KL Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan announced the relocated bazaar would start from the Jalan Gereja traffic light up to Leboh Pasar Besar.
Shahruddin also confirmed there will be no change to the bazaars in Bukit Jalil.
