KOTA BHARU (October 2): All government development projects, prior to commencing, or below 15% completion are to be halted, to be reviewed.

The NST reports that Deputy Works Minister Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir said that the cancellation is not absolute in nature, but the government would be studying whether these projects should be continued or postponed.

“All projects which benefit the people will be continued. There is no reason to stop them. There is only a timing issue due to the process involving the new government’s takeover as well as financial problems.

“This depends largely on the financial situation. If the project is progressing well and has gone past the 15 per cent stage, then it will continue.

“Some projects were abandoned halfway or did not even begin despite receiving the initial payment. These are the ones we will be reviewing,” he said.

Mohd Anuar said an open tender process would be implemented for the contiuation of the projects, to be selected by a trusted panel of evaluators.

He called for people to be patient, saying that he hoped the tabling of Pakatan Harapan’s first national budget in November would pave the way for more projects to be carried out.

“Even if these projects were to be postponed, it would not be long. Those which benefit the people would be given priority,” he said.
