PETALING JAYA (August 6): The free Smart Selangor bus service slated to begin in January, to take passengers to the Section 19 KTM Komuter station, has not materialised to-date.

Residents have been waiting for the much needed service, The Star reports

The lack of a bus service to the Komuter station was raised first in April 2017, after which, Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) announced in October of the same year that it had approved of a bus service running from the Section 19 KTM Komuter station to Taman Sri Muda.

Taman Sri Muda Zone A Residents Association chairman T. Mogan said residents were in need of a better bus service in the area.

Taman Sri Muda Zone C Residents Association president Sandra Saykeran said the free bus service would benefit the low-income groups in the area.

“There is no bus that takes commuters from the KTM station to Taman Sri Muda. If you take a taxi, it can cost you about RM8 to RM9, and if you park at the KTM station, it would cost you RM4 a day.

“It would certainly benefit commuters from Taman Sri Muda if there was a free bus to take them straight to the KTM station,” he said to The Star.

Former Shah Alam city councillor Ruthira Surasan said the proposal for the service had been rejected by MBSA three times before obtaining approval.

Among reasons cited was the number of foreigners in the area.

“I was told it would start in July but I do not know why it has not,” she said to the daily.

MBSA corporate communications head Shahrin Ahmad said the free bus service from Taman Sri Muda to the Section 19 KTM station is expected to begin sometime this year.
