DBKL to review Sri Petaling high-rise project

PETALING JAYA (July 30): Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) will review a proposed high-rise residential development on a piece of vacant land in Taman Sri Endah, Sri Petaling that has invoked the ire of locals seeking to protect the neighbourhood’s green space.

The proposed development features two 46-storey blocks and a 59-storey block of serviced apartments with 704 units on a 2.9-acre parcel, reported The Star.

The project had not been approved yet, said a DBKL spokesperson.

The objections of residents will be tabled at a One-Stop Centre meeting which will be held soon, after which residents will be informed about whether the project will proceed or not, the spokesperson added.

According to Sri Petaling Residents’ Association (RA) chairman Tan Tai Tong, the project site has been identified as a green lung in the Draft Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020.

However, as the plan has not been gazetted yet, developments are allowed on the land, he said.

He hopes the land can be turned into a park to benefit the local community.

Tan claimed that he had performed a check on the land last year and found that the land which had previously belonged to the Federal Territories Land Office was sold to a private developer.

He said a notice board about the project was put up in February, but residents from Endah Ria, Endah Regal, Endah Promenade and Endah Puri condominium objected to the development.

He added that the residents had also voiced their objections to DBKL on June 17, but it has not given any information about the status of the project.

Meanwhile, Endah Puri Management Corporation chairman Henry Delions said residents are against having more apartment blocks that loom over their homes.

He called for the vacant lot to be restored as a green space and warned of worsening congestion if the development is approved.
