PETALING JAYA (July 18): There are currently no construction works for an office building named ‘Tower M’ within the Kuala Lumpur City Centre development, said KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd (KLCCH) in a statement today.
The ongoing construction works on Lots L, L1, M and N – which have been identified as the site of the tower by The Edge Malaysia weekly – are for an integrated transport-oriented development.
“The development comprises four levels of basement car park, one level concourse retail and four levels retail podium. The concourse and underground car park will be fully integrated with the upcoming MRT Station. The substructure works for the projects by KLCCH are in progress as planned, concurrently with the MRT Station works by MRT Corp., scheduled to be completed by end 2022.
“The sub-structure includes the construction of a foundation for any prospective buildings in the future, so as not to disrupt the MRT line when it is in operation,” it said.
KLCCH added that any future developments on the lots mentioned must achieve pre-secured full tenancy “as KLCCH is not a speculative developer”.
“In view of the current market conditions, any such plan is unlikely to materialise before 2030,” it reiterated.
“KLCCH’s mandate is to derive value from our assets and this includes any future commercial construction. To suggest otherwise is misguided,” it said.
The weekly publication reported that Tower M, which will come up on four lots within the Kuala Lumpur City Centre development after 2030, will be 700m tall.
Estimated to have 145 storeys, the new office building will dwarf KLCCH’s Petronas Twin Towers, which at 451.9m and 88 storeys are currently the tallest buildings in Malaysia.
