Jinjang Utara longhouse residents must settle all their bills

KUALA LUMPUR (July 17): The 150 families who have not been allowed to move to the Seri Aman PPR flats have either not settled their outstanding rental and utility bills while living in the Jinjang Utara longhouse or have problems in their paperwork and loan application, reported The Star today.

The daily reported yesterday that Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng wanted the authorities to provide more People’s Housing Project (PPR) Seri Aman homes for residents of Jinjang Utara.

Lim said that housing for residents there has been a long drawn out issue “ongoing for 27 years”.

“Out of 1,600 units there, only 1,000 units were allocated to the residents. The other 410 units have been allocated for the Youth Transit Housing Programme housing and another 190 units to be sold to the public,” Lim added.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Housing Management and Community Development Department deputy director Mohd Muzammer Jamaluddin has now advised those who have trouble paying their bills to rent the PPR units instead of buying them.

“If they cannot pay off their rent and utility arrears, it is unlikely they can service monthly bank loans.

“So they can reapply to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to rent the units instead,” he told the media during a balloting session at PPR Seri Aman.

Meanwhile, The Star also reported that Jinjang Utara DBKL Zone A Public Housing Residents Association chairman Mohamed Nawaz Koya are helping residents with financial problems to own their homes.

“I have met with DBKL Socio-economic Development executive director Datuk Ibrahim Yusoff and there is a plan to include the residents’ outstanding debt in their monthly instalment for the PPR units until the debt is fully paid,” he said.
