Industrial romance

 

Ask those familiar with USJ 19’s commercial spaces and they will probably tell you about the sleepy neighbourhood mall and the numerous vehicle workshops and related businesses that dominate the rows of shops there.

This gritty landscape makes W_are_house all the more incongruous. Housed in one of the shops, entrance is via a back lane that the establishment itself describes as “dodgy” and one is transported into a dreamy event space.

Priding itself as a budget-friendly alternative to hotels, W_are_house juxtaposes exposed brick, white cement walls, old wooden pallets and metal ceilings with whimsical details such as bird cage lampshades, chandeliers and a tonne of fairy lights. It’s an #Instagram-ready venue — all you need are the right filters and apps and you’re ready to rack up the likes.

The 1,700 sq ft venue has hosted a gamut of events, ranging from corporate events and weddings, to showcases and open mic nights. W_are_house can also be used as a studio. Social media mavens, take note.
