KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said it will ensure that the Mass Rapid Transit Line 3 (MRT 3) or the Circle Line will be delivered on time and within budget.

In a statement today, its chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said an earlier completion date will allow Malaysian commuters to reap benefits in terms of getting a modern, efficient, reliable and green mode transportation and make their commuting more convenient.

Shahril added that the new line will improve connectivity with the existing urban rail network and this will boost economic activity and becomes a catalyst for development.

He was responding to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's announcement on Budget 2018 today that the MRT 3 project will be delivered in 2025, two years ahead of schedule.

Shahril said MRT Corp will work together with relevant agencies to come up with the best way to implement the project so that it will be fast-tracked.

He also views that the setting up of a National Rail Centre of Excellence is a positive move to develop the rail industry in Malaysia.

"We can already see now that this industry has a lot of potentials and the time is right for Malaysians to take steps to move into this industry in a big way," he added. — theedgemarkets.com
