KUALA LUMPUR (JULY 11): Jendela Mayang Sdn Bhd, the developer of Pavilion Damansara Heights, and Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn Bhd have been awarded naming rights to two new Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations along the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line.
Pavilion Damansara Heights is an integrated development coming up adjacent to the Pusat Bandar Damansara MRT station while Kuala Lumpur Pavilion runs The Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Shopping Complex in Bukit Bintang.
Jendela Mayang was awarded the naming rights to the Pusat Bandar Damansara station while Kuala Lumpur Pavilion won the naming rights to the Bukit Bintang station. The two stations will be renamed Pavilion Damansara Heights-Pusat Bandar Damansara station and the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur-Bukit Bintang station, respectively.
In a media release today, Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said the station naming rights allow a licensee’s name, logo or product branding to be associated with a station.
The other two companies that were awarded naming rights were Manulife Insurance Bhd (Semantan station to be renamed Manulife-Semantan station), and Aeon Co (M) Bhd (Maluri station to be renamed Aeon-Maluri station).
The four stations of the soon-to-be fully operational MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line were selected to start off MRT Corp’s Station Naming Rights Programme, said MRT Corp.
“Their name or brands have the potential to become household names when associated with MRT stations that are expected to serve 400,000 daily commuters,” said MRT Corp director of commercial and land management Datuk Haris Fadzilah Hassan.
Under the programme, a licensee is accorded the right for its name, logo or product brand to be associated with a particular station by having it prefixed to the station’s name. These will then appear on all signage in stations, trains and other locations, as well as on collaterals such as brochures and websites.
The licensee will also be given prominent branding space on the outside facade of the station or inside the station when external space is not available.
Haris said the successful licensees were selected following a tender exercise that was carried out earlier this year.
He added that the licensing duration for each station ranged from three years to a maximum of 10 years.
“These four stations were just the first batch to be accorded station naming rights and MRT Corp will open up further requests for other stations in the future,” Haris noted.
Phase 2 of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line from the Semantan station to the Kajang station will be operational from July 17. Phase 1 from the Sungai Buloh station to the Semantan station was opened to the public on Dec 16 last year. Ridership is estimated to reach 400,000 users per day.
