KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) today launched its F&B Division and pledged to lobby for benefits and rights for F&B members to survive the Covid-19 pandemic.
The launch of the new division was conducted online with Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia Datuk Sri Nancy Shukri as the guest of honour.
MRCA immediate past president Datuk Sri Garry Chua said the MRCA F&B division aims to represent F&B retailers with objectives such as assist and support members specialising in the F&B industry; arrange training and business networking events; equip members with right skills and information; promote professional development in the F&B retail chain business and franchise industry; assist and support to achieve objectives; and to conduct other lawful things which are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objectives.
“In light of the current chaos caused by the pandemic crisis, the MRCA F&B division has pledged to do the following for its members – lobby for extension and improvement to the Covid Act to protect and preserve retail businesses affected by the MCOs; lobby for fair charges by delivery platform; lobby for dine-in for vaccinated patrons; lobby government for business recovery funding for SMEs; lobby for government initiated mediation on outstanding rent issues during MCOs,” said MRCA in a press release today.
The association also said that with the cordial relationship with MRCA and various government bodies relevant to F&B, members are expected to gain invaluable opportunities to raise business-related issues and gain unhindered access to first-hand information from the authorities that would benefit their business.
“In anticipation of a business rebound in the post-pandemic era, MRCA F&B Division shall organise relevant workshops and training to ensure MRCA members are well prepared to adapt to the new consumer trend and behaviour in the future.
“MRCA F&B Division will provide members with knowledge and techniques to improve their operational efficiency, as well as opportunity for expansion through franchising. Further, MRCA F&B Division also intends to assist MRCA members that are interested to be a competent franchisor,” the association noted.
