Overview
Ampang Jaya, more commonly known as Ampang, was one of the earliest areas in the Klang Valley to be opened for tin mining, in the 1850’s. The place was named in reference to the miners' dams, the name "Ampang" derives from “empangan” or dam in Malay.
Due to the creation of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in 1974, Ampang district was split into two, in which the west portion belongs to Kuala Lumpur and the east belongs to Selangor.
The two demarked areas are unique and each paint a different picture, both in terms of atmosphere and purpose. Ampang, Kuala Lumpur or Ampang Hilir is a modern, vibrant commercial area with high-end, high-rise residential addresses.
