Apex court fixes March 27 to hear appeal against stay of Najib's SRC trial

It was reported that the AGC would file a certificate of urgency on its appeal against the stay that Najib obtained at the appellate court in February, pending the disposal of his appeal over the public prosecutor’s withdrawal of the certificate of transfer on seven charges related to the case.

Appellate court only allows one of Najib's four appeals

Najib is appealing on four matters, namely wanting a gag order against the media from discussing his case, challenging the appointment of Sulaiman as a prosecutor, wanting more documents to the case and questioning the transfer of the case from the Sessions Court to the High Court following the withdrawal of the Section 418 Criminal Procedure Code certificate.

Najib dozes off in Appeal Court

Najib, who was seated in front of the accused dock, was seen catching 40 winks, when this came to the police officer's attention. The police officer, who was seated on the right side of the court room, was seen walking over to Najib, touching the former premier on his shoulder, and saying some words.

Muhammad Shafee Abdullah told the Court of Appeal that his client wanted another judge to hear his criminal breach of trust and abuse of power case in relation to SRC International Sdn Bhd or that he be given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.

“The prosecution is under scrutiny from the public as they want to see the trial proceed. The whole world is also looking at us, and if possible we want to see the trial (in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur) to proceed tomorrow (today),” said the AG.
