Negeri Sembilan government to help Taman Desa Duranta house owners

SEREMBAN (Sept 14): The State Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Committee had vowed to do all it can to assist house owners facing land ownership problems in Taman Desa Duranta, Senawang, Negeri Sembilan.

Its chairman Datuk Jalaluddin Alias said the state government would be roped in to assist the government workers who had been asked to vacate the homes they bought six years ago.

“We will discuss with the state government what we can do,” he said on Saturday.

Seventeen families in Taman Desa Duranta have nowhere to go after being told to vacate by the owner of the land on which their houses sit.

It is learnt that the government workers, mostly teachers, bought the homes through an agency dealing in loans for government employees.

The buyers later realised that the sale and purchase agreement they had signed showed a different land owner’s name from the original one. This fact came to light after they received a letter from the original land owner asking them to vacate.

The land owner, however, gave them the option of purchasing the land if they wished to remain.

The house owners, who are already paying for the housing loan for their homes, have baulked at taking out another loan for the purchase.

Jalalluddin said the committee and state government would act as the mediator between the landowner and house owners to come up with a win-win solution.

“We will try to enable the house owners to pay a lower sum to continue living there.”

He added that a fault in the system had allowed such an error to occur.

“What has happened is definitely illegal, but now we must look at what can be done to help the families,” he said.

He reminded the public to be careful when buying a home and to always read the fine print.
