Tan Sri Leong Hoy KumKUALA LUMPUR (Oct 23): Mah Sing Group Bhd commends the various Budget 2016 initiatives including the reiteration of commitments to major infrastructure projects and measures to create more affordable housing.

According to group managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum (pictured), the government’s continued efforts to make the high-speed rail a reality and its commitment to improve highways, MRT and LRT will directly benefit Mah Sing since 61% of the company’s landbank in terms of gross development value is in Greater KL.

“We believe that better connectivity will provide convenience for our residence and will also result in property appreciation, especially in the vicinity of MRT stations,” he said.

Leong added that the Jalan Tun Razak dispersal project will benefit M City@Jalan Ampang, while improvements of roads will make suburban townships such as Southville City@KL South and M Residence in Rawang more appealing to homebuyers. Also, the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line benefits Mah Sing’s D’Sara Sentral and Lakeville Residence. In Sabah, the BRT Kota Kinabalu, will benefit the Sutera Avenue and KKCC projects.

Meanwhile, Leong highlights that the RM500 million Industrialised Building System (IBS) fund via SME Bank will definitely benefit the housing and construction industry in terms of reduction of time and material wastage during construction.

He also noted that the RM18 billion estimated in 2016 for the RAPID project in Pengerang, Johor, will drive demand for housing in the vicinity, directly benefiting the developer’s township of Bandar Meridin East in Plentong.

The proposed implementation of the Cybercity in Cyberjaya will increase demand for commercial, retail and residential units within the company’s Garden Residence@Syberjaya and Garden Plaza@Cyberjaya.

Additionally, in support of the drive for affordable housing, Leong notes that 44% of the company’s planned residential launches in 2015 are priced below RM500,000. (BAJET 2016)
