SHAH ALAM (Jan 13): Sime Darby Property conducted the launch of the Elmina Lakeside Mall and Elmina Outdoor Sculpture Museum on Saturday.

Officiating the event was Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, who was accompanied by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin.

Also present at the launch event were Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, among other dignitaries and state agency officials.

The mall, which has been operational since August 2024, serves as a retail and leisure hub for the City of Elmina and beyond. Anchored by tenants such as Jaya Grocer, Harvey Norman, Kenny Hills Bakers, Nak Nak, and Ediya Coffee — a popular South Korean coffee chain making its Malaysian debut — Elmina Lakeside Mall caters to a diverse and growing community.

Spanning over 200,000 sq ft of nett lettable area across 17.2 acres, it is located within a 20-minute drive for a catchment population of 870,000 residents.

Designed with sustainability in mind, Elmina Lakeside Mall integrates outdoor parks and spaces to encourage community interaction and engagement. The mall’s open-air design reduces air-conditioning usage, contributing to a lower carbon footprint. It also features cycling paths, bicycle parking, planned solar panel installations, and one of Klang Valley’s largest DC charging station for electric vehicles, with 16 chargEV bays.

Elmina Lakeside Mall has exceeded our expectations from the outset, achieving an impressive 99% occupancy rate and attracting significant footfall, with over 180,000 visitors during the opening week and a sustained monthly average of 640,000,” said Sime Darby Property Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Azmir Merican.

“This strategic addition to the City of Elmina enables us to integrate retail with nature, creating a one-of-a-kind shopping experience that reflects our vision of building spaces that serve real needs, foster connections and support a modern lifestyle with a focus on wellness,” he added.

Meanwhile, Elmina Outdoor Sculpture Museum provides a dedicated space to showcase contemporary Malaysian artists and will soon expand to include regional and international talents. The museum represents the synthesis of artistic expression, sustainability, and innovative urban design within the City of Elmina. Its inaugural exhibit, “The Wealthy Horizons” sculpture by Abdul Multhalib Musa, sets the tone for this innovative cultural destination.

“The Elmina Outdoor Sculpture Museum celebrates the significance of art and creative expression while providing a platform to promote Malaysia’s finest contemporary artists to regional and international prominence. We believe that this initiative will elevate the City of Elmina beyond a residential and commercial centre into a destination for arts and culture,” explained Azmir.

Sime Darby Property stated that the launch of Elmina Lakeside Mall and Elmina Outdoor Sculpture Museum aligns with Sime Darby Property’s commitment to sustainable urban development and long-term value creation for stakeholders.
