• Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi called on civil servants and state-owned companies (GLCs) to be prepared to work together and play their roles in leveraging the JS-SEZ in line with Johor's mission to become a developed state by 2030.

ISKANDAR PUTERI (Dec 12): Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi (pictured) has described 2025 as a "make or break" year for the state, as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) agreement is expected to be signed in January.

He called on civil servants and state-owned companies (GLCs) to be prepared to work together and play their roles in leveraging the JS-SEZ in line with Johor's mission to become a developed state by 2030.

"Next year will be a make or break year...the whole world will be watching Johor. The ones who will execute it are all those present in this room. If we do not execute, the mission and the plan will not happen.

"The difference we need to make next year is how we break the silos... we need to collaborate with those around us," he said in his speech at the Johor and National Economic Development and Sustainability Programme: Financial Perspectives in the Era of 'Kancilnomics' at a hotel here on Thursday.

On Dec 4, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the signing of the agreement with the Singaporean Government regarding the JS-SEZ, initially scheduled for Dec 9, had been postponed to January 2025.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, explained that the delay was due to Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong contracting Covid-19.
