KUALA LUMPUR (July 15): Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers (MIPFM) to establish Strata Management Basic course to raise the bar for the stratified property management industry, according to a press statement on Saturday.

In the statement, UUM vice-chancellor Datuk Mohd Foad Sakdan said that the course has significant benefits to the industry, academics, staff and students. These advantages include knowledge transfer to the industry, talent development, driving economic growth, and fostering innovation.

“UUM highly values the role of MIPFM in fostering collaboration and commitment among professionals and private practitioners in promoting the significant role of property managers, stratified property management, asset management and facilities in Malaysia. The role played by MIPFM can help in the development of UUM students, particularly by giving them invaluable practical experience in managing stratified property development in Malaysia,” said Foad.

Meanwhile, MIPFM president Ishak Ismail hopes the agreement stemming from the collaboration will be implemented in October this year. He noted that the initiative will offer students, industry players, academics and the B40 community valuable insights into the property management industry.

“In addition to UUM, we have established memoranda with various public and private institutions of higher education that recognise the immense potential of careers in property and facility management. Hence, we accept the task of managing buildings and infrastructure in Malaysia to ensure that they remain appealing and increase in value over time,” said Ishak.
