KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 11): Abang Abdillah Izzarim Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari has stepped down as executive chairman of Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB), just six months after he was appointed to the position.

Abang Abdillah, 45, is the son of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg, more popularly known as Abang Johari or Abang Jo.

Citing retirement as the reason in a bourse filing on Monday, Abang Abdillah’s resignation is effective immediately. He was appointed to the position on June 28, 2023.

In a separate filing, SCIB also announced the appointment of Datuk Seri Zaini Jass, former Sabah police commissioner, as the new non-executive chairman.

Zaini, 60, also holds positions in two listed entities, including as independent non-executive vice/deputy chairman in Artroniq Bhd and an independent and non-independent director of Asdion Bhd.

Separately, SCIB announced a slew of changes in its boardroom, including the resignation of independent and non-executive directors Shamsul Anuar Ahamad Ibrahim and Toh Beng Suan, to be replaced by Datuk Tan Bok Koon (independent and non-executive director) and Chiew Jong Wei (executive director).

On Dec 1, Bursa Securities reprimanded SCIB, its former non-executive chairman Datuk Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah, and its former managing director and CEO Rosland Othman for missing its Oct 31, 2021 deadline to submit the group’s 2021 annual report.

They also missed the deadline to submit the audited financial statements and its auditors’ and directors’ reports for the 18 months ended June 30, 2021.

Mohd Abdul Karim and Rosland were also fined RM27,000 each. SCIB only issued its Annual Report 2021 on Jan 17, 2022.

Mohd Abdul Karim stepped down from his chairman post in October 2022 and retired from the group's board in December that year, while Rosland, 50, left the group in June this year.
