PETALING JAYA (Aug 17): Around 8,000 workers at more than 20 S P Setia Bhs’s project sites have received food aid from the company, thanks to the humanitarian efforts of Setia Food Aid 2.0 to support the livelihoods of its foreign workers across the nation.

The food aid activity which started from July 18 and continues for a few weeks, will be distributing dry rations such as rice, instant noodles, canned food, flour, salt, sugar and cooking oil to approximately 8,000 workers at more than 20 project sites in Penang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor.

In a media statement today, S P Setia Senior Executive Vice President Datuk Seri Koe Peng Kang (pictured) said with construction works affected during the lockdown, the struggle to put food on the table has taken a toll on these site workers who many would be living from hand-to-mouth. Their livelihoods and wellbeing became increasingly at risk, and this situation has called for S P Setia’s prompt intervention in providing the aid they need.

“While we are doing what we can with the vaccination centres (PPVs) at Setia’s venues to help the nation achieve herd immunity and accelerate the economy’s recovery, we are equally concerned about the current challenges faced by foreign workers. Hence, we decided to continue the Setia Food Aid initiative to sustain them during these trying times,” he said.

Other than food, S P Setia also distributed  Vitamin C along with the dry rations to help boost their immune system which is especially important during these times.

Setia Food Aid was first rolled out in April 2020 in the beginning of the Movement Control Order (MCO). Approximately 6,000 workers from S P Setia’s project sites across the country were supported through the aid.

During this time, the company is also implementing strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in compliance with the government’s regulations to keep workers safe at its project sites.
