KUALA LUMPUR (June 4): Malaysia logged 7,748 new daily Covid-19 cases today, down from 8,209 yesterday, taking cumulative confirmed infections above the 600,000 level to 603,122.

Another 86 deaths were reported in the 24 hours as of noon, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In a statement today, he said Selangor continued to post the highest number of new cases at 2,612, followed by Kuala Lumpur (851), Sarawak (706), and Johor (446).

Elsewhere, Penang posted 376 new cases, followed by Perak (371), Sabah (287), Kelantan (286), Kedah (263), Melaka (234), Labuan (230), Terengganu (203), Pahang (146), Putrajaya (20) and Perlis (8).

Of the 86 new Covid-19 deaths, 20 were registered in Selangor, 14 in Johor, 13 in Negeri Sembilan, seven in Kuala Lumpur, five in Sarawak, four in Kedah, three each in Sabah, Melaka, Pahang, Perak, Labuan and Penang, two each in Kelantan and Terengganu, and one in Perlis.

A total of 6,624 patients were discharged in the latest 24-hour period, bringing total recoveries to 515,571.

Active cases currently total 84,369, with 883 being treated in intensive care units, including 459 patients on ventilators.

The health ministry identified 23 new clusters today, of which 12 were from workplaces, seven from the community, two from religious centres and another two from education centres.

To date, the ministry has detected 2,284 clusters, of which 1,593 have been declared ended, leaving 691 active clusters.
