SEREMBAN (Nov 12): Irish teenager Nora Anne Quoirin’s (pictured) mother believes her daughter could have been kidnapped and she also “questioned official findings that no foul play was involved in her death”, Reuters reported yesterday.
Meabh Jaseprine Quoirin said during the Coroner's Court here yesterday her daughter could not have wandered off on her own as she had a brain condition that impacted her balance and coordination.
"She would often fall or stumble if she was walking in areas that were not flat or straight," Meabh told the Court via video conference.
"Why does the state of her body not reflect someone who was constantly moving and constantly exposed to the harshest elements?" Meabh asked.
She believed that her daughter was kidnapped, but added that she did not know how or for what reason, Reuters reported.
Nora Anne, 15, went missing on Aug 4 last year, a day after she and her family arrived in Malaysia for a two-week holiday at a resort in Pantai here.
Nora Anne’s body was found nine days later on Aug 13, near a stream in a hilly area, about 2.5 km from the resort, after a big search operation.
A preliminary post-mortem report revealed there were no criminal elements in Nora Anne’s death and that the teenager had died of gastrointestinal bleeding, due to prolonged stress and hunger.
Bernama reported Meabh saying during the inquest that the Quoirin family chose Malaysia and The Dusun resort as a holiday destination as Nora Anne's uncle lives in Singapore and that her father's friend had recommended it.
Asked by her counsel Louise Azmi on the family's holiday plans in Malaysia, she said that they intended to stay three nights at The Dusun, followed by two nights in Kuala Lumpur and another two days in Penang and an island destination that she could not recall the name of, before going to Singapore for another five-day stay.
The proceedings continue today with Nora Anne’s father Sebastian Marie Phillipe set to testify.
